  16. MODIFYING THE ENVIRONMENT:
  17. --------------------------

  19. The 'dbf_DOC' application program may require more intensive disk
  20. utilization  than  other programs you are  currently  using.  DOS
  21. permits you to alter the environment to facilitate this intensive
  22. disk utilization.
  23.  
  24. It is recommended that you create a CONFIG.SYS file (if the  file
  25. is   not  there  already)  which  contains  the   following   two
  26. statements.
  27.  
  28.        FILES=20
  29.        BUFFERS=8
  30.  
  31. DOS  looks  for  the CONFIG.SYS file each time  the  computer  is
  32. turned  on  (or  "rebooted").    When  the  file  is  found,  the
  33. operating  system  alters the environment  corresponding  to  the
  34. contents of the file.

  38. INSTALLING 'dbf_DOC' ON SYSTEMS WITH A HARD DISK DRIVE:
  39. --------------------------------------------------------

  41. The  diskette that your copy of 'dbf_DOC' was distributed to  you
  42. on should not be used for running of 'dbf_DOC'. You should  first
  43. make  a  back-up copy of the distribution disk and  then  install
  44. 'dbf_DOC' on either your hard disk or floppy disk system.
  45.  
  46. We recommended that you create a sub-directory that will  contain
  47. the   'dbf_DOC'  program  and  distribution  master  files.   The
  48. following  DOS  commands  will  create  a  sub-directory   called
  49. 'dbf_DOC':
  50.  
  51.        C>CD\
  52.        C>MD\dbf_DOC
  53.  
  54.  
  55. Once  you  have created the sub-directory, select  the  new  sub-
  56. directory by entering:
  57.  
  58.        C>CD\dbf_DOC
  59.  
  60. Insert the 'dbf_DOC' distribution disk into drive 'A'.
  61.  
  62. Next, copy the contents of your distribution disk on to your hard
  63. disk by executing the following command:
  64.  
  65.       C>COPY A:*.* C:
  66.  
  67. Remove your 'dbf_DOC' distribution disk from drive 'A'.
  68.  
  69. Reboot  your  system  in order to load the  new  values  in  your
  70. CONFIG.SYS file.

  72. Make your 'dbf_DOC' sub-directory your current directory:

  74.          C>CD\dbf_DOC
  75.  
  76. Load 'dbf_DOC' in order to initialize your data files.

  80. Upon  completion  of  your  system  initialization  you  will  be
  81. returned  to  your system prompt. Reload 'dbf_DOC'  in  order  to
  82. start using it.

  88. INSTALLING 'dbf_DOC' ON A DISKETTE
  89. ---------------------------------
  90. The  diskette that your copy of 'dbf_DOC' was distributed to  you
  91. on should not be used for running of 'dbf_DOC'. You should  first
  92. make  a  back-up copy of the distribution disk and  then  install
  93. 'dbf_DOC' on either your hard disk or floppy disk system.

  95. In  order to run 'dbf_DOC' on a floppy disk system you will  need
  96. two  disk drives. One drive to contain your program disk and  the
  97. other  to contain your data files. ** NOTE - THERE IS NOT  ENOUGH
  98. SPACE  FOR BOTH THE 'dbf_DOC' PROGRAM AND YOUR DATA FILES ON  THE
  99. SAME FLOPPY DISK. *

  101. Insert  the 'dbf_DOC' distribution disk in drive 'A'  and  select
  102. the 'A' drive by entering "A:" (return).
  103.  
  104. Insert  a blank FORMATTED DISK into drive 'B'. This is  the  disk
  105. that your working copy of 'dbf_DOC' will be copied to.
  106.

  108. Enter the following command:
  109.  
  110.        A>COPY A:*.EXE B:
  111.  
  112. Upon  completion  of this copy operation remove  your  disk  from
  113. drive  'A'  and replace with the new program disk in  drive  'B'.
  114. Load a new diskette for data files into drive 'B'.
  115.  
  116. Reboot   your  system  then  execute  dbf_DOC.EXE  in  order   to
  117. initialize your system.

  119. Load 'dbf_DOC' in order to initialize your data files.

  123. Upon  completion  of  your  system  initialization  you  will  be
  124. returned  to  your system prompt. Reload 'dbf_DOC'  in  order  to
  125. start using it.

  139. INDIRECT, CONSEQUENTIAL, OR INCIDENTAL DAMAGES  ARISING
  140. OUT  OF THE USE OR INABILITY TO USE SUCH SOFTWARE  EVEN
  141. IF   MICRO  DATA  ASSIST  HAS  BEEN  ADVISED   OF   THE
  142. POSSIBILITY  OF  SUCH DAMAGES OR CLAIMS.  IN  NO  EVENT
  143. SHALL  MICRO  DATA ASSIST's LIABILITY FOR  ANY  DAMAGES
  144. EVER  EXCEED THE PRICE PAID FOR THE LICENSE TO USE  THE
  145. SOFTWARE,  REGARDLESS OF THE FORM OF CLAIM. THE  PERSON
  146. USING THE SOFTWARE BEARS ALL RISK AS TO THE QUALITY AND
  147. PERFORMANCE  OF THE SOFTWARE. Some states do not  allow
  148. the   exclusion   of  the  limit   of   liability   for
  149. consequential  or  incidental  damages,  so  the  above
  150. limitation may not apply to you.

  152. This  agreement  shall be governed by the laws  of  the
  153. State of Texas and shall inure to the benefit of  MICRO
  154. DATA  ASSIST and any successors, administrators,  heirs
  155. and assigns. Any action or proceeding brought by either
  156. party  against the other arising out of or  related  to
  157. this  agreement  shall be brought only in  a  STATE  or
  158. FEDERAL  COURT  of competent  jurisdiction  located  in
  159.

  161. Collin County, Texas. The parties hereby consent to  in
  162. personam jurisdiction of said courts.

  164. This  is  copyrighted software. You are  not  obtaining
  165. title to the software or any copyright rights. You  may
  166. not   sub-license,   rent,   lease,   convey,   modify,
  167. translate,  convert  to another  programming  language,
  168. decompile,  or dissemble the software for any  purpose.
  169. You  may  make as many copies of this software  as  you
  170. need for back up purposes. You may use this software on
  171. more than one computer, provided there is no chance  it
  172. will be used simultaneously on more than one  computer.
