- MODIFYING THE ENVIRONMENT:
- --------------------------
-
- The 'dbf_DOC' application program may require more intensive disk
- utilization than other programs you are currently using. DOS
- permits you to alter the environment to facilitate this intensive
- disk utilization.
-
- It is recommended that you create a CONFIG.SYS file (if the file
- is not there already) which contains the following two
- statements.
-
- FILES=20
- BUFFERS=8
-
- DOS looks for the CONFIG.SYS file each time the computer is
- turned on (or "rebooted"). When the file is found, the
- operating system alters the environment corresponding to the
- contents of the file.

- INSTALLING 'dbf_DOC' ON SYSTEMS WITH A HARD DISK DRIVE:
- --------------------------------------------------------
-
- The diskette that your copy of 'dbf_DOC' was distributed to you
- on should not be used for running of 'dbf_DOC'. You should first
- make a back-up copy of the distribution disk and then install
- 'dbf_DOC' on either your hard disk or floppy disk system.
-
- We recommended that you create a sub-directory that will contain
- the 'dbf_DOC' program and distribution master files. The
- following DOS commands will create a sub-directory called
- 'dbf_DOC':
-
- C>CD\
- C>MD\dbf_DOC
-
-
- Once you have created the sub-directory, select the new sub-
- directory by entering:
-
- C>CD\dbf_DOC
-
- Insert the 'dbf_DOC' distribution disk into drive 'A'.
-
- Next, copy the contents of your distribution disk on to your hard
- disk by executing the following command:
-
- C>COPY A:*.* C:
-
- Remove your 'dbf_DOC' distribution disk from drive 'A'.
-
- Reboot your system in order to load the new values in your
- CONFIG.SYS file.
-
- Make your 'dbf_DOC' sub-directory your current directory:
-
- C>CD\dbf_DOC
-
- Load 'dbf_DOC' in order to initialize your data files.
-
- C>dbf_DOC <return>
-
- Upon completion of your system initialization you will be
- returned to your system prompt. Reload 'dbf_DOC' in order to
- start using it.
-
- C>dbf_DOC <return>

- INSTALLING 'dbf_DOC' ON A DISKETTE
- ---------------------------------
- The diskette that your copy of 'dbf_DOC' was distributed to you
- on should not be used for running of 'dbf_DOC'. You should first
- make a back-up copy of the distribution disk and then install
- 'dbf_DOC' on either your hard disk or floppy disk system.
-
- In order to run 'dbf_DOC' on a floppy disk system you will need
- two disk drives. One drive to contain your program disk and the
- other to contain your data files. ** NOTE - THERE IS NOT ENOUGH
- SPACE FOR BOTH THE 'dbf_DOC' PROGRAM AND YOUR DATA FILES ON THE
- SAME FLOPPY DISK. *
-
- Insert the 'dbf_DOC' distribution disk in drive 'A' and select
- the 'A' drive by entering "A:" (return).
-
- Insert a blank FORMATTED DISK into drive 'B'. This is the disk
- that your working copy of 'dbf_DOC' will be copied to.
-
-
- Enter the following command:
-
- A>COPY A:*.EXE B:
-
- Upon completion of this copy operation remove your disk from
- drive 'A' and replace with the new program disk in drive 'B'.
- Load a new diskette for data files into drive 'B'.
-
- Reboot your system then execute dbf_DOC.EXE in order to
- initialize your system.
-
- Load 'dbf_DOC' in order to initialize your data files.
-
- A>dbf_DOC <return>
-
- Upon completion of your system initialization you will be
- returned to your system prompt. Reload 'dbf_DOC' in order to
- start using it.
-
- A>dbf_DOC <return>
